Transcript: Career Question – What Do YOU Do ?
Well Hello! Murray Comber here for another Career Chat.
Question. What do YOU do?
It’s not an uncommon question when your meeting someone. It’s a conversation starter, an icebreaker. It’s one of those questions that is asked, and it’s asked often.
Question is, how do you answer it? Is it a simple one or two word thing…
- Real Estate
- Doctor
- Teacher
- Lawyer
- Retail…
Simple, Big Picture?
Well…OK more about that in a moment. In the meantime, my second question is this…
Whenever you’re asked, how do you feel about it?
Do you feel…
- Joyful
- Happy
- It puts a smile on your face and
- You could talk about it for a while,
Or is it the opposite…
- You’re sad
- You’re embarrassed
- You’re apologetic and
- You want to change the subject.
Let’s get back to how you would answer it.
I’m going to use myself as a model because I’d like you to do an exercise when you’re done this video that would be helpful for you.
Murray what do you do?
I could say, I’m a Career Consultant. Or I could say…
Do you know the people that are dissatisfied at work?
- They don’t like your job
- They don’t want to go in and
- They can’t wait to get home
- They don’t even know why they chose that career and
- If they could, they would start the career all over again doing something else.
Well I work with them by teaching them a very comprehensive Career Management System that once learned, can help them navigate their world of work.
Ultimately, the goal is…
- to create a more satisfying, fulfilling job experience
- not only in the immediate
- but from the point they learn it forward
- right till they retire and maybe even beyond.
Oh, I know that’s long and wordy but that’s what I’d like you to do because that really gives you a standard that once you get it on paper you can follow up with question #2
But how do I really FEEL about that?
And that’s important because if its negative, you need to deal with the issue.
I’d love to hear your story. Why don’t you post it in the comments below?
- The Title of your career
- Flesh it out and
- Tell me you’re happy or sad.
If you’re private, message me on this media
but in the meantime, we’re going to build on this theme in our next video in just a few days.
I’d love to hear from you. I’d like to hear your story.
In the meantime, you have a wonderful day and we look forward to talking to you again with another chat.
Bye for now!
